Triump kickstart lever convert for Commando

Has anyone tried to convert a T140 lever to work on a Norton kickstart pawl?

See the two kickstart levers in the pics below.







The one on the left is fitted to my Commando. The one on the right is off a Triumph.

To convert the Triumph lever, I think I just need to change the connection where the lever attaches to the kickstart pawl.

Does such a part exist? Any one know where I can find one?

I would have preferred to buy a complete new lever, but they are not available at the moment from either Commando Specialities or RGM.

Look on RGM Norton website they sell the kick starter you are after and lots of other stuff to.

I threw out about 70 pounds of old Japanese bike kickers, shifters and pegs last year; in that pile were at least a half-dozen fold-out kickstarters. I should have sifted them out to chop the spindle hole section off and weld on some old Norton kicker bases...

I made one for a client's Triton that forks fantastic.



You might scratch around your local bike salvage yard...

My Norton was made from a basket case. It included a kick stater that was probably from a Honda 750. The Norton kick start shaft had been machined down and splined to exactly fit the Honda shaft. It looked like it would be good. About the third time I started the engine the shaft snapped right off.

Nortons need a better kick starter than a Honda. Triumphs with 10 1/2: 1 pistons are pretty hard on the kick starter.

What barrels are they GP?

Have you used these much? Can you tell us how they stand up to use / abuse?

Just a thought. Could the Norton kickstarter spindel be machined to fit the Triumph T160 with cotterpin?
