Hi again everyone I have just bought my dream bike a 1960 Triton cafe racer which unfortunately has a fibreglass petrol tank oil tank and seat which I feel I have to change for alloy if anyone can put me in the right direction to find these reasonably priced or even used I would be very grateful also being a 1960 it is a slimline will a wideline tank fit as there seem to be none advertised for slimline many thanks Chris

Slimline oil tanks are much more difficult to make than wideline which is why you see more wideline one. No, a wideline one will not fit a slimline frame.

You can get a slimline oil tank on Ebay from Legendary Cycles but they are about $700. I found one from a guy in the UK that is great but it was a very long wait and I don't think he even makes them any more. I've read that a good fiberglass oil tank will work just fine.

You can get great fuel tanks from TAB Classics in the UK. Great stuff. Clubman Racing says on their website that they have a Lyta Style slimline fuel tank for $950 shipped.

I think I can live with a fibre oil tank but not fuel will a wideline fit without horrendous problems

Dave Degens (of racing and Triton building game) would only ever use fibre glass oil tanks as he'd had alloy ones split several times, but never had issue with a fibre glass one.

Modern fuel does kinda dictate the use of an alloy petrol tank on a Triton these days, but fibre glass for the oil tank is still probably a better option, and a lot cheaper, and a lot easier to get hold of.

If the tank isn't supported under part of it, long term it may not like that.
The support around the perimeter of featherbed tanks is important, as thats all there is !
Only trying a particular tank would know for sure.

You do see alloy tanks for slimlines, so they are about, its only a matter of tracking some down ?

That's my Slimline Norton Atlas with the TAB II classics fuel tank. Great fit and well made.

@JohhnyMac .... Dang! That is pretty! Makes me doubly regret we did not link up when I passed thru your neighborhood recently.

You need to post your pics to somewhere like photobucket,
and then include the link to the pic with the
TRITON
thingies here.
There is a full photo posting tutorial at the top of the Commando page, but thats it in a nutshell.
Don't ever take too much notice of the criticisms (unless you have overlooked something), its your bike after all...

Thanks guys!! I have taken my time with this bike and I really like how it's turning out.

Yes, well spotted! They are indeed Norman Hyde M Bars. (Only I turned them upsidedown :) )
