Hi guys/gals, I am chasing a new light/horn/ switch for my 1970 750S . I think it is a Triconsul switch. green button for light flash. and black for horn with a switch in the middle for lights. anyone know where i can get one, or a good replica. i have the original so i can put the buttons on the new one if they fit.. also my tacho has died smiths 3003/12 from memory, can i buy a NOS cheaper than getting it fixed i am wondering if there is one available?Same for speedo, it will be the next thing to neeed replacing.

RockyRob,
They do not make replicas of the Triconsul switch. However, they do reproduct the Tricon. You could replace the red button from the Tricon with the green one from your Triconsul and have a stock appearing switch. However, I would tape off the wire leading from this button as you cannot use the Tricon switch for a headlight flash. I find this to be the simplest method as most of us rarely use the headlight flash option anyway.

Alternately, you can add a post from your old switch to the new one and run a jumper from the high beam post to this new post. Rebending the copper strip allows the button to act as a bridge from the high beam to a direct source from the battery. This method will allow you to convert the Tricon to a Triconsul and give you the highbeam flash, but you must take care that the reformed copper strip does not contact the housing or handlebar.

As far as the solid green ball tachometer, I don't know of a source for NEW Smiths instruments. They turn up on occasion, but a repair/rebuild on your unit should run between $100-$200. If you find a NOS unit I would doubt you would find it cheaper. In addition, an NOS unit sitting for 38 years would probably have all the lube dried up and would likely work for a short time before it, too would need rebuilding. Send your unit to Nisonger for rebuilding.

I just went the opposite way turning in an old solid one and getting back a slit globe one. I use MARKBOHMAN@HOTMAIL.COM. he has this old face and could hook you up. By just rebuilding an old gage.

I know Mark quite well, he's a good guy. He does however, definitely treat this as a hobby and does not have an extensive inventory of parts, so if a quick turnaround is your aim, make sure you talk to him first. You won't be disappointed in his work, but if you are in a big hurry, he may not be interested.

Thanks for the info guys, I will do as you suggest Ron and put the old button on th new tricon, I dont think i will bother with the high beam as i dont ride at night anyway. I didnt think about an old tacho drying up so i will go the rebuild. I am in Australia and theres a company here specializes in gauge resto work so i will get both the speedo and tacho done at once. http://www.ottoinstruments.com.au/
I seem to remember reading a quote in the forum "" you dont buy your Norton, you put a deposit on it and then start paying for it"
I,m finding out thats true :p
