Dumb question about how to mount ignition switch

Please excuse me for asking for help on what should be obvious. I got a 1971 750 given to me with what looks like a home-made ignition switch bracket that was roughly welded up. It mounted to the 45 degree frame tube near the air box. The bracket mated with the frame tube with a 1/2 diameter short piece of tubing that wrapped around the frame tube and was attached with hose clamps. Is this a factory part? I hope not because it looks terrible. My parts book does not show a mount, just the ignition switch cover. Could it be that when the P.O. installed those terrible K&N filters they lost the mount which was part of the stock air box? Any suggestions on the best location or most elegant solution would be much appreciated. The bike will be compleatly re-wired so relocation is not a problem. Thank you to the Norton Brain Trust!

There's no good place to mount the ignition switch. I use a piece of aluminum angle 1/8" thick with 4" legs and cut off what you don't need. Mount to the two existing 1/4" holes where the ham can fit like everyone else does.

I’ve got a ‘71 750 and it mounts next to the air box in front of the tool tray cover. I’d post a photo but not sure how to or if I’m allowed.

To be honest you could mount the ignition switch anywhere you like if you have the know how, could even mount it up on the handle bars/top triple tree like most bikes, I never did like where the ignition switch was mounted on my 74 Commando. since I converted my 850 to the Featherbed frame back in the 80s I just have a hidden ignition switch where I am the only one that knows where it is, but I don't even use a key switch just a hidden toggle switch for on and off and another toggle switch on my headlight for lights, a key switch won't stop someone stealing your bike. ignitions are easy to hot wire if they can be seen, a small piece of wire with a spade terminal at each end is all that is needed.

Hell , all new bikes for a while now mount it front and central .
The MK 111 model does .
