I understand increasing the amount of thread actually working but since Jim's nuts didnt seem to move what does the spring do?
I run single 750 type header pipes. Once I used the trick of tightening as the engine is revved Ive had no more loose nuts ever.
But now I see what happened to Jim, including the fact the he has additional rear mounts, is disheartening.

The spring is a good idea along with increasing the area of threads in the head.
Nothing destroys the aluminum threads faster than a nut that has come a little loose while riding.
If the nut is a good fit in the thread and it is never allowed to come loose you can usually get pretty long service from the threads in a stock head. Jim
