Hello, just purchased a 73 Commando and love it. I do have one question to start. Thebframe and engine numbers match but not the tranny. Is this normal or do I have a non orginal tranny. I live in the SF Bay area (Oakland) if anyone has any rides planned. Thanks

I also have a 1973 Commando. The frame/engine/trans numbers match but the trans has a "C" after the normal numbers. I thought the "C" might mean close ratio or competition (imagination gets a little out of hand) but all the gears are standard. I posted this question a while back but no one provided an answer. Other than this little quirk the trans number would have matched frame/engine numbers when it left the factory.

The factory code markings sometimes found on engines and gearboxes often signify minor production or other detail changes that were only known to the factory, those code letters are not part of the serial number-so if the 6 digits of the gearbox number are the same as the frame plate and engine then they are matching numbers.

The Mt Hamilton ride was last Sunday. Next will be June 10 Bikes on the Bay show at Soquel. This is an annual motorcycle show that includes all types...even British.
