Got the full transmission rebuld kit I bought from Frank and Ella back in 13 before my wife passed. Feel if I can get the transmission together maybe I will get the spark and have a bike this spring!!

Thanks!

Just looking at it from the photos, one thing that comes to mind is that you could take a dremel tool with one of those cupped ball end attachments or similar small grinding/cutting tool and make a "V" along the cracks, clean degrease it real good then weld it up. After that drill it out oversize and then press in an aluminum pipe or tube with the original I.D.

I 2nd cj's advise. Ken Canaga recovered a Quafe shell with similar but more dramatic cracking out of bolt bosses. My Quafe was a racer casualty but what cracked yours? I use a tank top propane heater head on a hose to detach and heat the living snot out of shell over frying pan temp so oil cooked off and less distortion d/t local thermal extremes so not spot heating like a torch.

Running with the bolt loose at some stage.

This afflicts boxes going back even to the prewar era, and not just Nortons either.

Was That way when I tore it down. Had sit about 15 years before I got it from a Uncle who passed. After I put about a thousand mile on it decided needed a teardown. Glad I did.

You are lucky that the crack is so visible. Some cracks are not. With so many heat cycles from repairs over the years, I believe that every gear box should get a good NDT check prior to re-assembly. Can anyone give us a contact for such a service?
Thanks for being there once agin, Jim.

Saw a documentary with the same title, Tranny Crack. Was on another topic completely.

Friend of mine is a machinist, told me to bring by. He has a tig, recent purchase for his shop. Said should be no problem, went over cleaning and prep. See what happens this week.
