Been putting off checking inside the primary for a minor leak for a while now.

I hadn’t used any thread sealer when I put it all together and the lowest of the three bolts that secures the inner primary to the cases was leaking as expected. I thought I may have blown out the drive side crankcase deal, but it was fine.

While checking I noticed a crack in the Norvil belt. I converted to belt drive in 2014. The belt has about 4,000 miles on it.

Checked the pulleys. No sharp edges. Fitted the spare, all good.

Thought I'd check a few bolts while at it. Shocked how loose crankcase and cradle bolts were. Oil junction was loose, as were timing side cover bolts. Will need to go over it all this week. Actually shocked how loose the bolts/nuts were. Need to be a bit more rigorous.

That looks more like a tear or nick than a wear-related crack. Was it the inside or outside edge of the belt? Could it have caught on something?

Inside edge. I checked the front pulley and clutch basket, nothing sharp, jagged that I could find.

Good close up.

Looks to me like the belt is trying to front pulley guide plate. If it’s the inside edge you might see evidence on the inside pulley guide plate.

If so, it points to an alignment issue.

Worth checking as you’re already in this deep.

I installed the second adjuster on the other side of the cradle when I put it together. Will check alignment.

Is the clutch bearing ok? Be careful not to overtighten the adjustment, better a bit loose than a bit tight
Cheers
