Took a punt on a tank n side panels

I bought an Indian fastback tank from an Australian importer last year, un painted. The front mount stud threads were not quite right, so I easily repaired them. I am very happy with the result, they have been on for about 6 months. I am glad I bought unpainted.
Grant.

well the tank and panels arrived on thursday and looked good. the bad news is the tunnel on the tank is too narrow and will not go over the head steady, shame as the quality of the kit is pretty good. i have notified the seller about returning the parts but not heard back from them yet.
ah well you can but try back to plan B now LOL

Besides the tunnel, it doesn't look like you would be able to install and use a gas cap. The rear is too high and the whole thing appears to be tilted to the timing side.

Is it just a small interference at headsteady? I had this on an aftermarket tank when I installed the Dave Taylor HS. I solved it by making a depression into tank at the contact points. I made up a "jack screw" arrangement with a dome headed carriage bolt, couple of nuts/washers and a block of wood against opposite side of tank tunnel. Very easy to get the shape where I needed it to clear.

no it is way to small by about 22mm

Did you check the tank to see if there were any leaks or did you not get to that stage with the fitment issues ?

Not India, but this is fascinating:

Notice the care they take when moving from station to station

Also, notice at the end what the kid does after the leak test.

If it where me and it don't leak provided it mounts up and the gas cap/taps fit ok... less the (edit) stock head steady issue (remove to check) I'd put indents in the tunnel (portapower) to make it fit...but that's just me ...Unless its way out of whack ?

Have seen this or something similar before and they still havenā€™t upgraded the PPE!

Trouble is 22mm isn't exactly small beer.... And if they've missed that dimension by that much, I'd lose confidence in whatever else might be hidden or waiting under that pretty paint job...

Quit while you're ahead.
Create 11 -12mm clearance from each side sounds better šŸ˜‰

passed the leak test no problem. it is going back i am not interested in making it fit as that would likely compromise the rest of the tank welds in that area
Props to you for giving the Indian tank a go but from the pictures it looks like the filler cap is not in the correct orientation and the rear of the tank does not have a curve like an original tank. With all that and the fitment issues what would your advice be to others considering going down the same route?
