I have a new TM34 that Ill soon prep for installation. The Mikuni diagram (motorcyclecarbs.com) number 53 shows it pointed at the inlet where there are three passages. Facing it the left hole has the jet needle point in it , the middle is plugged (it seems) and the right hole is untapped and aligned with the center like it goes to the outlet side.
Anyone know where that air jet is supposed to be? Maybe the middle plugged hole and screwed in from the backside?

My suggestion is to send a PM to geo46er and see if you two can chat over the phone. He's a really great guy and I'm sure he'd be happy to help you out if you don't get clear direction on this thread. We disassembled my TM to record the pilot jet number, slide number, etc. and put it back together in about 1/2 hour. He really knows the internal workings of the TM carb.

Right(center of intake) hole of the intake. Very few of these call for an air jet. My tm34 has no airjet. The TM32-1, TM34-2 and the TM36-2 all call for no airjet. But the part number is "BS30/97 #2.0". This one being the largest, the next size would be "none".
If you look deep inside, you will see the threads. It screws in from outside.

the TM2's don't come stock with the airjet - so looking in there you won't see a thing - that may be fooling you - the air jets are cheap about $3 each and are the same as the VM airjets - and easy to put in and can be had from a .5 to a 2.0 (in .2 increments)

they help control the mix as the slide rises in conjunction with the main (simplified explanation)

i have a number 2 in mine on my 850

Thanks PV
This seems to be the case with the TM34-2 I bought. When I ordered jets the other day I ordered the 2.0 air jet anywho since it's cheap and easily installed if needed.
