I just can't seem to get the timing right - it was running ok and i have only changed the swing arm bushes in the mean time but now it will not start
1969 commando with boyer ignition and 31TDC and dual coils
if i advance the timing we get a few rotations of firing and then the bike stops
otherwise retarding the timing doesn't get any firing of the cylinders
is there something i have missed in the thinking

check that the wiring connectors around the timing pickup are ok. Mine want crimped correctly around the insulation and lead to a broken wire, which lead to hard starting.

If bike won't run now ...set timing as close to 31 statically. Then go do basics fuel, air , fire.Fire being the funny one check all your grounds are good especially and plugs are still good and refer to above post on Boyer.Good luck

The early Boyer ignition has a design shortcoming where if the battery voltage is low, the spark timing defaults to full advance. Is your battery TOPPED up? Ignition switch and handlebar kill switch delivering full voltage to the ignition unit?
