Throttle Needle Size? No slack when pulling the throttle

Hey guys, happy new year.

Winter project is going well, learning quite a bit!

Question, my throttle pull is super tough, i've done a few things to diagnose but haven't solved quite yet.

I've removed and replaced the single cable and lubricated the two that go to the carbs. but that didn't solve the problem. I've opened up the top of the carbs and removed the inner sleeve to clean them out and also cleaned the spring and throttle needle and put a touch of lube on the outside of the sleeves so they would move freely. When putting it all back together, i'm still not getting much pull from the cables and i think the throttle needles might be too large (unless its something else which i'm hoping to find out). The needles are 68mm and don't seem to give much room for the spring to move.

Are these throttle needles right or am i missing something else?

If these are the OE cables that the machine was delivered with, they don't owe you much.

Have you cleaned and lubricated the actual twist grip where it meets the handle bar? What about the junction?

If the slides are original it may be time for sleeving; the slides (sans needle) should move up and down in the bore with next to no effort; are they gauled or abraided?

Your cables may be worn internally and if so lube will not give you the properties you are seeking (for long if at all). This is particually true near the carb tops where the sharpest bend is located; you can try reversing the two cables end for end and see if that gives you some relief. Probably time for new cables (all 3) and a hard look at the bores/slides.

Good luck, and do be careful not to make them so easy that they beg to stick open (make sure your kill switch is working and hardwire the motions to use it).

I usually work from the carbs back up. Start by removing the cable from the slide and put the carbs back together with the spring. Put your finger in the air intake and push the slide up to the top of the opening. Both slides should snap back down smartly. If they don't snap back, you need to check the slides and the needles to see what is hanging up. If it is in the slides, have them resleeved. If that is successful attach the cables and put the carbs back together, disconnect the single cable at the twist grip and pull it with your hand or pliers and see if it pulls without hanging up. Let it go and it should snap back in smartly. If all is well at that point, the problem is in the twist grip. If all is not well, you need to check the routing of the cables, the cables themselves and two-into-one junction.

If the problem is in the twist grip it is usually pretty easy to figure out.

To sum it up, take it one step at a time.
 
Sounds like your cable are too short. Needles do not vary much in length, not kikely the issue. Check the 2 to 1 junction. Disconnect the cable from the throttle to see if the slides return home, bottom of carb. Make sure the slide function in the carbs without cable and that they are assembles correctly.
On the throttle there is a screww with a stop nut. If this is tightened it will bind the throttle. Releave it just for smooth operation.

I've cleaned and lubed the twist grip and junction.
I'll have to take the carbs off from the middle to test if they are working correctly in the sleeve. The bike was sitting for quite a few years and when i pulled them out they were pretty gummed up but i cleaned them both and the insides of the carb where they sit.

What does it take to resleeve them if they aren't functioning correctly? (sorry not familiar)

It could be the cables are too short but the single cable is brand new barnett and the 2 going to the carbs are stock, so a bit perplexed and hesitant to buy more cables.
