I've tried a search, but no luck.
The problem is that my throttle cable is 1" too long, and the adjuster is too short to take up the slack:

The free inner cable length seems to be correct at 3.1/4" (Venhill states 3.3/8"):

My junction box is 2.1/2" long - is that correct?

I have tried two twist grips, and both have this 1" slack.
Does anyone know what is wrong?
Motor cycle is '74 850 Commando in '75 frame.

Hi buckfizz,
The easy way at one time would have been to shorten the cable and solder on a new nipple, however these new Venhill cables must be impregnated with something, a lubricant? that makes soldering just about impossible.

I believe there are cable spacers available indeed Venhill may supply them. If not perhaps you could get one made.

3.1/4" would be for the standard action twistgrip, but I think yours is probably (looks like) the later '73- fast action Amal (1/4 turn) type, in which case you most likely need the 2.44" free length inner 064601 (UK/Std. bar) or 064602 (US bar) cable.

2.44" sounds just about right - thanks, L.A.B.!
I wonder why Venhill doesn't make such a cable?

They obviously aren't aware there were two different inner length cables I'd guess?

They're not aware of the two different lengths.
However, if you order online, you can add comments to the order nominating the free cable length you want.
I ordered a 2.44" throttle cable.
