68 Norton Commando - home market bars. Decided to upgrade to Amal premiers and ordered new throttle cables to go with it. The outside sheath on the cables measure 25 1/2 inches and the cable ferrel to ferrel measures 28" (adjusters completely slacked)

The 2 1/2" inches Of cable in excess of the sheathing is nowhere near long enough to let slide fully descend into the carb barrel. . . . . A bit bummed as I had hoped to ride it for the first time in two years.

Anyway - I need to know what the proper cable is and how far it needs to extend . . . . Any info greatly appreciated. . . . .dont want to waste money ordering more cables and getting the wrong ones.

Thanks in advance,
Dave

Dave,

A 32 mm carb only has to move the slide approx. 1.25" the clear the throat. A 30 mm is less. I just installed the same primary cable on my bike w/ no problem. The issue is some where else, either the secondary cables or in the adjustment. Should be an easy fix.

Did you replace the single upper cable which attaches to the twist grip?
There are 2 different cables for this and the correct one depends on your throttle tube. There is "standard twist" and "1/4 twist" length cables.
I've mixed these up before and had the same problem.
Just a thought.
