Threads for Commando?

As far as I know, BSC and CEI are the same thread form and BSF is different. If there's something wrong with that - I'm all ears.,

BSF/BSC (CEI) is part NM24389 (06.7885) Head stud, size listed as 3/8" x20 BSF - 26 CEI x 1-7/8", was in the original database and was verified by a user. If wrong, please provide what is correct.

I see what you mean that one end of the stud is 3/8 x 20 BSF and the other end is 3/8 x 26 CEI so for studs I suppose you could say that but need to make it clear what it is you mean (BSF x CEI stud).

Same for UNF/UNC (UNF x UNC stud).

The original database had no UNEF. If any exist on a Norton, please tell me and I will correct them. Same for UNS and UN20.

Special threads aren't necessarily fasteners, for instance, one I can think of is the fork cap nut which is 1.1/16 x 20 and has the Unified ring marking which would make it 20 UN.

UNC/UNF is lists as part 702880 which is unknown, type is stud, side is 3/8"x16-5/16"x24, was in the original database, unverified and I have no idea where it goes, if anywhere. Could be a Matchless or Villers part as stainless bits had them grouped with Norton which is something I'm slowly fixing.

I don't know but I'll keep a lookout for it.

You 2 guys are awesome at the finer things ..... thanks for knowing and sharing this hard won info !

Another stud combination = BSW x CEI

Old Britts has one of the most comprehensive catalog of bolt and thread sizes. There are some gaps but for a vast majority of the parts in the parts book they have listed the length and thread pitch.

For a change I was trying to answer a specific desire in a reply. When you look fasteners up in my web site, it is clear that it is a stud.

Here are the standards related to Nortons currently in my database:

BA
BSC (CEI)
BSF
BSF/BSC (CEI)
BSP
BSW
UNC
UNC/UNF
UNF

Is that what you want?

If you want to know the standard and size for a specific fastener, you can easily look it up. If it doesn't exit, you can figure it out and enter it, so ask if I can.
What I look for is the threads used on my 71 Commando...

As far as I know Norton were in a transition period on therad types in the early 1970s, going from Imperial to metric threads.
Hence you will have a difficult job determining which threads you have.
I have learned not to take for granted what thread type and size I am dealing with, so you will have to make up your own machine thread project, I use a micrometer and veneer gauge and thread gauge along with a Roebook Zeus pocket book, this has 99% of all the threads I encounter.

Imperial to Unified, not metric and began earlier than the 1970s.

Mostly, all Commandos used the same fasteners. I have nothing specific to a 71 other than possibly a note in the data. I consider it MUCH better to lookup the part in question online and make corrections as they are found. I already provided the thread used which is what you asked. Please answer: Is the attached file what you are looking for?

If you research this, as I have done( for the last 30 years), you will note the big change was when the commando frame rolling chassis came out. I was almost all UN.
For the most part only the commando drive train (engine/trans) retained Brit hardware
Separately the 20M3 then 20M3S then 200000 had their own partial changes and it seems to have each time incrementally replaced the British hardware with UN.
Anything lucas, amal or Smiths does not seem to have been affected.

Perfect. Thx for your help, MarshG (and others)...
