I have tried a few searches but cant find info in this particular thread form. So:

Can anyone tell me what the thread is for the scavenge oil way grub screw, the one in the drilling below the timing cover...?

Grub screw itself is easy enough to get, but I want to set the screw deeper......

All I know so far it it is very coarse....

Thnaks

Without striping one out from a 500 motor, I wouldn’t know, and a Commando might be different.
It’s relatively easy; all you need is a thread gauge, possibly a BSW or a BSF one or even a metric one on a Commando. Any good engineering shop should have these. Measure up the outside diameter and look through a screw thread guide, like;

......................looks like the information has already been posted.

According to the parts books, the pre-'72 grub screw is part NM E4590 and 1972-on it is part 06-2638 UNC

http://stainlessbits.com/link12a.html

E4590: 5/16" x 26 CEI (Cycle thread)

06-2638: 5/16" x 18 UNC.

Thanks, I have new cases from Maney, and it really is coarse, I did have the 06-2638 pn, but no way of knowing the thread. That page is really useful, pity about the company behind it. Thanks.

Yes thanks Bernard, and I have to say, much easier for a guy sitting at a computer, tap already bought from ebay.....I just need the hole a fraction deeper to allow me to remove some metal from the cases to clear my Rickman frame....not something may of us ever need to do I guess.....
