Grub screw-oil stop

I have a 1971 Norton and have one question. What does the Grub screw-oil stop do? Located on the bottom of the timing cover.

The grub screws simply block the hole left during the manufacturing process. The come in handy during rebuild to inspect the oil passages for blockage. This should never ever be overlooked.
I purchased a set of cases that contain just under a teaspoon of shrapnel in the passages. I believe I have 4 grub screws, one more than normal.

My cases are apart so I will remove the screw and make sure the oil passage is clean, correct?
What do you use to install the screw to keep it from leaking?

Correct, and chack for others.
Sinse this is kind of a pipe thread (tapered), I snug it in good then I take a center punch and hit it a couple time around the edge.

On my '71, the one in my timing cover and the one in my crankcase (under the oil pump boss) were both punched from factory.
They both had slotted heads and weren't in good shape after removal.
Replacement socket heads are the go.
