Trying to find allens to fit the 3 headtop headsteady holes. Anyone know ? The ones I have are getting too tight too quick. Come to think of it we would all benefit from a chart itemizing all Commando bolt-nut or cut threads applications in all 5 types over the years. Does such a thing exist we could printout to have handy ? Thanks. :)

Walridge has a nice chart in the back of their catalogue, I tried to copy it to thread, but the columns don't line up when posted.

Here is a page that I copied from my old MGA Service Manual. It tells you how to identify Unified Threaded hardware. The Norton Commando as well as many other British vehicles use Unified Thread fasteners a lot and I have found this information useful.

So if you see any of these identifying marks on your nuts and bolts you know that it is Unified Thread and don't need to waste time guessing or measuring it with a thread gauge. However, if hardware does not have any identifying markings you will have to figure out what the hardware is by some other method.

Also note that even though there are some slight differences between Unified Threaded fasteners and American Standard fasteners they are considered interchangeable. This is nice to know for us Americans!

Reviving this thread to discover (re-remember?) what the series of linked "0's" mean along the side of a nut (00000 - vertical along side of nut).

Next, was the back axle nut, spacer, and bolt head black chromate or painted or ? I am cleaning everything now and there is a definite black finish I cannot remember seeing on my earlier bikes.

Finally, that chart Hobot linked to is great!

It indicates it's Unified thread.

When working as a T/A to maintenance fitters they had a wall chart for every known tap and die British to Unified also what size drill to use for each tap even had pipe to gas threads, when they closed down the maintenance workshop I scored all the taps and dies as well the wall chart, its a bit old and tatted but still hangs on my shed wall, it takes all the guess work out of any thing you need to know to cut a thread.

Why not take a picture of it and post it....

Once I renew my VIP membership I will but money is tight for me at the moment I no longer use my PB account but most nut and bolt supplier or engineering supply shop should have good wall charts for sale as they are pretty common in any maintenance workshop that use tap and dies.
