Today, the shadow of the moon passed over Texas. Schools were closed, hotels filled up, some streets were closed and, if my neighbor's blasting radio is to be believed, there was a running play by play account of the action. For a few moments the sun lost it brilliance. The day turned into something akin to a bright, moon lit, night. We all went outside to bask in the shadow of the moon. I think we are all closer to cavemen than we might want to think.

We had a 95% eclipse where we are …. Further north & east Meatcove had Totality , news say hundreds of cars , that crowd for Village with +\-100 folks … neighbour brought over eclipse glasses not much left of sun at 95 but no corona ….

I was more interested in the racing cylinder heads than the eclipse.

I was enjoying all the reports in the newspapers.

You name it EVERYONE seemed to have an angle ….. from aetheists to politicians and any flavour of fruit loop inbetween.

Perhaps it was a message from Captain Kirk sent back in time telling us to reinstate 5 star leaded petrol ( gas ). 🤠

Holy $hit did that become a big deal! Suddenly every talking bimbo and bozo in the television world was an astronomer or astrophysicist.
Schools out early? Businesses close early? Traffic all clogged up?
I am a bit jaded as I have seen them before but I never recall such an event being turned into big top circus time.

That's society today.

Shittons of made up drama.

Over nothing.

When i rode my Triumph from Vancouver bc to Mitchell OR for the 2017 eclipse, i observed from edge of a cliff overlooking a small valley. Great view of the dark shadow sweeping across the valley laid out below me. A few others folks nearby, one operating a drone. During totality. I shouted out " Shouldn't we be sacrificing a virgin or something?". The women nearest me shouted back,"That ship's already sailed im afraid!". I motioned towards the drone guy and said "bet he'd do just fine!" ;-)

On ‘72 total eclipse here , I went to a high society lake with a buddy , neither of us had drivers license , took his ‘70 650 bsa , wearing cutoffs & t-shirts , one helmet between us , I used liner , he had hard shell ,first stop booze store in Stewiacke for 12qts of Keith’s ale , over to lake rode around lake found vacant cottage , and sat on door step and enjoyed the lake while polishing off the ale , put all bottles back in case and left at end of lane , we did no damages at all …. Funny on way out to lake things got dark looking up no clouds , but we were chilled briefly , who knew there was an eclipse , dah ….. Carly S. had hit bout that one haha!

I thought of the ape scene from 2001 A Space Odyssey and thought that I should be grunting, smashing bones and throwing a bone in the air.

I saw the total eclipse near the coast in Northern France in 1999 in perfect conditions( in Uk it was mostly cloudy). never forget it.
