In November of a year, any year, they are building the next years model. So a bike built in November of 1971 is probably a 1972 model.

Are you saying the number on your frame, motor or gearbox is 201533? If so, then you have a 72, not a 71. If 151533, then maybe 71, but a very late 71.

That, we may never know.

The "15" series certainly appears to have reached 1533xx, and "153362" is recorded in the RGM and INOA modifications list.

We have seen what appears to be a ground-down case stamped "153640" however, there is some evidence to suggest that may not be a genuine factory number.

Hi Les,
But the 153362 can be assumed as the last 1971 production?
Thanks.

Yes, (although 153362 probably wasn't the very last) because so far we have not seen any evidence to suggest that late "15" series machines were considered "1972 year models".

Hi Les.
i agree.
My 153362, built in november 1971, is a 1971 engine type.
This is sure.

Who knows a latest?

As i wrote before about this bike there is nothing listed in the NOC Records that the date of november 1971.
I bought this bike as a Dunstall 810.
The question is: may be there is nothing listed in the NOC Records because the bike went to Dunstall without a lot of parts (forks, wheels, barrells, head, tank, seat, etc.)?
But my italian title there is written "Norton 750" like my others Commando.

Everything I've seen Piero suggested that Dunstall bought complete machines fron Norton,
and modified them from there.

Unlikely I would think, as those parts were basically "new" he would have had no problem selling them.

Hi Les,
sure he sold!.
Please, a final question.
In Italy, all the Commando have the title as "Norton 750" without type or other mention.
Hi have a USA title wit "Norton 750 Roadster".
What happens in England?; the titles has the type of the bike?.
The Dunstall bikes was sold like Norton or Dunstall, in other words the titles were Norton or Dunstall?.
Thank you.

No, I'm not sure at all, but it is more logical he would have sold such parts which would have been very much in demand at that time-as they still are now rather than just throw them away.

We don't have "title" documents in the UK, but before the UK vehicle registration system was computerised at the DVLC (now DVLA) Swansea, Wales, in the mid-1970s a motorcycle's "Log book" may have the type recorded, such as "Commando, Roadster" etc.. however, after the system went computerised, the "Registration Document" (or V5, now V5C) generally only stated make and cubic capacity-for instance, my Commando Roadster Mk3 is described as: "NORTON, MOTORCYCLE, TAXATION CLASS - BICYCLE, 828CC".
From around the mid-1980s additional model details were included for newly registered motorcycles.

On my V5 (UK registration document) my MK2A Norton Commando Interstate is

Make: Norton
Model: BLANK yes completely blank
Type: BLANK
Variant: BLANK
Body Type: Motorcycle
Cylinder capacity: 828cc

The same info is on an old version from 1989, so not just the latest style.

So not a lot of info

I read that Dunstall did have the right to have motorcycles he rebuilt new from Norton as Dunstall in the UK but from when I don't know. However if you use the current DVLA vehicle check online the Dunstall name is not selectable as a Vehicle Make so maybe he did not.

Fantastic!
But if Dunstall bought a complete bike, how much was the cost of a 810?
A lot more than a stock Commando?; even if he sold the parts desmounted!
