The changes I made on the sunburst

I hope the leak problem is history (even for 81mm bore) once the new STS cylinder barrels become available.

Hi Knut,
They are like the Monster of the Loch Ness, everybody is talking about it, but nobody see them finish and for sale
Do you know more?
Yves

I got one of the first sets Steve made, so yes
Ok, we can rule that out then.

I assume you’re using the front ‘ladder’ to take the weight of the engine?

Do those without the front ladder rely on the engine being held up solidly by the head?

Hmm, nice, but I suspect rather expensive....
Actually, make that very expensive.
Approx £300 ish more than Steve used to charge, but as they’re Nickasil lined, doesn’t seem too over the top to me...

All twins (should) use the ladder at the front. that's what it's for

It would be be pretty poor engineering to hang the motor from the head, properly made and fitted engine plates take most of the weight, as I said I use metalastic bushes in the head steady

Well I agree (ref the engineering comment) it’s what prompted my comment.

A quick google reveals plenty of ladderless Norton twins tho, even back in the day. This just looks to me like it’ll put all sorts of unintended stresses on the engine / engine plates.

That was one of the very early ones, and Kuhns were the ones who put ladders on in the first place, but it was carnkcase breakages that prompted it

Hi Nigel,
I send a emeil to Molnar in the pass, I don't even receive a antsword....
Yves
Yves,

Andy Molnar is currently making a batch of cylinders, so definitely worth getting in touch again - Tell him Andy Mortimer sent you... should put the price up a bit :D

Until John at STS has perfected his billet CNC machined ones (I believe he’s putting miles on them at the moment), Andy Molnar’s barrels seem very good value: £1410 + VAT for 83mm with nikasil liners.

Yves, like Jim says, modifying the head is easy, not so the Maney barrels.

Andy Molnar (the Manx guy) is making Nickasil lined alloy barrels for 750 and 850 Commandos... I think the sunburst NEEDS these Yves...

All alum without liners do make good sense but the Maney cylinders with iron liners work just fine. I've got over 50,000 miles on mine with no problems and leak down is minimal to non existant with total seal rings.

The issue Jim, is they’re no longer available !

This is very expensive! Do you know someone using his Nikasil cylinder?
A lot of Manx and G50 riders - including his son, RIchard - are using his coated cylinders and they seem to do OK ;)

The Norton twin stuff is a recent expansion of what he's been doing for years, so I'd also be curious to hear from anyone using them.
He's been in the business for more than the 35 years I've known him, so he must be doing something right...

Molnar Precision Limited - Products (manx.co.uk)

You also need to consider that Maney's prices are many years out of date and his cylinders have been unobtainable for years also.

I plan to buy a cylinder 77 bore, but with steel sleeves so I can adapt the bore to the pistons, you can not do this with Nicasil.
I know the good reputation from Molnar, one of my friends own a Manx, a real one not a replica.
To preserve the original engine, he buy a engine from Molnar fro the classic races, he is very happy.

He also does cylinders with iron liners - I just picked up a set for my 750.

Shows how much I know about pre-Commandos, I thought the last ones had the Norton script...

That's some mighty fine welding, and engraving!
Even the early Commandos didn't have the script!

I would love a timing cover as shown by Ludwig. But my bike wears a full fairing. Big investment for something cosmetic that is never seen!
