Well I was making more progress digging into my motor, and everything WAS going pretty smooth, besides having to beat the seized pistons out of the barrels, but I knew that was inevitable.
Anyway, I was able to get a hold of a place to "dunk" the cases and head, to remove all the junk, etc. The guy told me they just changed the dunking solution, and this meant the process would be cleaner and faster, which in turn also means cheaper. So I wanted to get my trans. case in on the deal. And this happens...
After taking out the gear cluster, etc. I got to the cam plate. You know that feeling when you know you shouldn't do something, but against your better judgment, you go for it thinking everything will work out, well this one bit me. The bolt holding the cam plate spindle wasn't budging, and I decided to give the ratchet a good rap with the hammer to shock it loose, knowing damn well the only thing holding the cam plate from spinning, was the teeth meshing with the shifter. And then...
Now the cam plate on this thing is flawless, and it looks like the spindle can be removed. I looked on the oldbritts site, where I think I found the part, a "cam plate spindle"? If so, this thing is $44!! I guess I shouldn't be surprised, and I only have my impatience to blame, but this sucks.
I guess the point of this thread is to vent, and just add a reminder to take a deep breath and listen to that gut feeling, when it tells ya not to do something!
