The Spring meet is just over a month away, so you ought to make plans to come out and see the action.
WHAT: "Texas Mile" standing start mile land speed record racing http://www.texasmile.net
WHEN: Friday, March 22nd - Sunday 24th, daylight to dusk
WHERE: Chase Field, Beeville, TX (Google turns up Sikorsky, next door) 4 miles east of Hwy 181, on Hwy 202, just past the prison yard on the right
WHATEVER: Cars, trucks and motorcycles of every sort. You never know what will pull up to the grid next!
-plenty of on-site camping
-food vendors
-open pits, open staging area
-shaded viewing areas
-P.A. system & giant digital readouts with driver, vehicle & trap speed info
-free programs
-golf cart rentals
-free coffee & refreshments at the CMA tent all weekend
-Sunday morning Christian service at the starting line viewing tent
Don't worry that the registration is full, EVERYONE on the standby list has always gotten to run.
I'll be there coordinating all the CMA volunteer staff, probably on my red Concours, but might also be tooling around on my '69 Bonneville race bike #142. I typically work the front gate and timing booth most of the weekend.
I typically bring at least one extra tent, several extra sleeping bags, blankets & pillows, so that people who want to ride out and stay at the track don't have to carry camping gear. e-mail grandpaulz@hotmail.com if you want me to "reserve" camping gear for you.
