TEL - Tetraethyl lead

Well lead is bad for engines; it is a contaminant. It blocks oil ways, blocks propeller function, and is only of use in old incorrectly designed engines. You don't need it, if you have good combustion control.
I work on aircraft, and this entire subject makes me extremely angry. Need an entire new deal, don't follow your father. People have their head up, now look figure it will ya, don't be a lazy fat tard. Now space X, that is a thing. You like that yet?

There are others who appear to know even less, though.
Flying to the UK back many decades ago I'd be in my hotel with only BBC 1&2 on the TV. I attempted to figure out cricket but gave up. Aliens landing from the planet Ogg could quickly figure out a hockey game but probably would ray gun a cricket match.

Friends in the UK say the same about US football and Baseball! ;)
Nah, we understand those games well… we just don’t understand all the fuss.

In England, ‘baseball’ is called ‘rounders’ and is played by schoolgirls. And ‘American football’ is called ‘rugby’ and is played by men (and women) who don’t wear padding and helmets.

I was thinking of Australia’s opposition in the cricket last week.

Baseball, like golf, as a spectator sport, is like watching paint dry. American football is the ideal TV spectator sport - plenty of time to run for another beer or pee break between seconds of extreme action. If you miss the touchdown the replay will catch you up.😁

Lead hasn't been in fuel for MANY years and, as has been stated here by various posters, the lack of it doesn't seem to have adversely affected vintage engines.

re football - I can't watch a complete (NFL) football game any more - too long and annoying with all the penalties/timeouts/clock stoppages, etc. A 1 hour game takes three hours! 🙄 Nowadays I watch NO football live. I don't view any scores and wait until the next day/watch the 15 minute NFL highlights on UTube of any game(s) I am interested in - usually two or three at the max.

+1 on YouTube.

Shortly after a game there will be an approx. 45-minute show every play and nothing else, and then usually next day a 15-minute show every interesting play.

On a long drive in a car, baseball on the radio can be interesting - on TV, nope, not for me!
Watching a game live or on the radio is the only way to enjoy baseball. On tv its nothing bu one long advertizement interupted by blathering jocks and the occasional play on the field.

I will say that running avgas in my Norton or BSA makes the exhaust fumes smell much nicer.
Doesn't go stale either.

We had an Army contract to service their T42s and U8s both Beechcraft products. Around that time it turned out the fuel bladders installed in those types were failing and needed to be replaced. The military was still using 115/145 Avgas (purple) and the lead content was amazingly high. I was skinny with long arms suited to removing and replacing the fuel cells in the wings. There was a rumor that purple gas would burn your valves and I did nothing to dispel it. My '68 Ford pickup ran almost exclusively on purple gas leaving the tailpipe with a nice brown coating. Since it got about 8 mpg it was like getting raise. I got so much out of a U8F that I had to store it in 55 gallon drums. While it was easy on my wallet it probably didn't do anything for my health.
