Tape

Every package I get from Wassell, no matter how big or small is 100% covered in packing tape. Every package from AN is at least 90% covered. I don't have that from Australia, the US, or Canada. Is there any reason for this? Reminds me of the 50s/60s in the US where we covered the package in brown paper and usually tied strings around it - never knew why and finally the USPS forced people to stop doing it when they became more automated.

You would think that every package from the USSA was covered in Red tape.

Waterproofing, to a degree.
