Talon rear sprockets

Disappointingly, I ordered a new rear sprocket from Talon last week..chased up today. It turns out something happened and what they said they had in stock, they haven't, so this leaves me without a rear sprocket! I've ordered 2 through Talon, but they are on a 12 week lead time, so this leaves me sans sprocket for the summer. Does anyone know of any alternatives? I've tried Bike HPS in the uk and they say they are only supplying sprockets for wheel they supply and would have to order from Talon.

I'll keep looking though! Maybe Norton will resume spares service and have them?
 
check out this thread, and P.M. ntst8, he has sourced a steel replacement.. ( or he may read this and respond direct).

New go faster bit arrived - i have only had 1 key until now. Rob Jameison (remember him) suggested i buy a generic one, way cheaper than theirs. But UK resellers wouldn't send to NZ. Finally went to a localish Moto Guzzi dealer who could only get an Aprilia branded blank. Now trying to source...

You need a (BST Type 2) - #525 pitch - 50T Look for : ( BST TYPE 2 ) I think I bought the last 2 Talon had in stock ! Try Norton they probably have some to build the last 40 bikes .

So TALON are going to make more ? I hope so.

These are the specs you need to find : Look for 76mm hub dia , 100mm bolt circle x 5 etc .. The sprockets are out there gotta find them. I think TALON will make more again , TALON has the best price too . Remember 50T .

Fits BST, Marchesini, OZ and Rotobox Wheels

* These sprockets meet and/or exceed O.E.M specs and offer a perfect fit
* Sprockets are black in color and Hard-anodized for strength.
* Sprocket Dimensions - 76mm Hub Diameter x 100mm Bolt Circle x 5 (10.5mm Bolt Holes)
* 525 Pitch
 
Thanks Tony. They say they will make more..but the feeling I got was that they would only make to order. I ordered 2..maybe I should up that!
I appear to have plenty of time to see if I can find an alternative that will get me mobile for at least some of our summer! I've asked Theil motorsports as well..they had front sprockets. I'm perversely hoping Norton might be able to help, but they are continuing their line of 'Closed 'cause Covid', but things are really opening up here and many businesses have remained at least shipping product. I myself will be taking a wander into town to post some things and take in the unusual sight of shops that are open! (not happened since Christmas!).

This is the time for all 961 owners to join in ! Get those orders in ! I am not kidding around ! The carbon fiber BST uses the same sprockets ! If you love the bike order sprockets now ! Fronts too ! Don't forget the fronts !!!
 
The problem is the rare big 50T size . If you needed 45T or 43T you can find it all day any day !!!

I feel another call to Talon coming on! 'you know I said I only want 2...weeeellll!'
 
I wonder if a Harley or Buell belt drive could be grafted on ? That would cure a number of issues in one go.

Ollie Thiel was working on that . But had to shelve the project because he said belt quality . I was very interested in this upgrade , because I love belts like on my sportster .

:D :D :D :oops: Thats what they said they had in stock! Doncha just hate it when you think you have struck lucky and someone has pulled the rug from under you months before! It sounds like Ollie at Theil motorsports has saved the day..indeed, may have saved my summer!

Looks like your are sticking with the alloy sprocket, but just to close this out. There is a company locally to me who are qualified aircraft engineers but who spend a good deal of their work hours building classic race bikes. I go to them for anything beyond my meager skills. They suggested the blank sprocket although in the end we could only get a 530 so they had to machine that down and then machine the centre/bolt and lightening holes. Not cheap, but i would still be waiting for an alloy one.

Yep, looks like I have tracked one down in Germany! I was looking at custom ones, but one company I found who offered this couldn’t right now. They can’t get the blanks at the moment! Happy to get something, but when times are better, will certainly look at steel.
 
I can sell one of the rears I bought if a member here (REALLY NEEDS IT) , meaning you will be down for a long while . I will sell and ship to you. I use paypal .

A very kind offer and highly appreciated! Ollie at Theil Motorsport has saved the day and I have a replacement winging it’s way to me as I type!

Took some parts to the vapour blasters today....apparantly very busy with lots of people working on projects due to lock down. As my parts were a small job, I might get a quicker turn around. We’ll see.:p
 
Talon have been bought out, not sure which direction the new company will want to with small production runs.
