Hi, new on here and jsut attempting some repairs (re-wire and single amal carb (mk 2) conversion. But... I have just droped an empty cardboard box onto the bike and smasehed the glass on the tacho- can it be repaired and how do I get the new glass on it. It's a 1976 (registered) mk 3 with the blue Nvy logo on it, a smiths type.

The glasses, rubber seals and bezels are available easily enough, but the bezels are crimped on, as the units were never really designed to be opened and repaired.
So the unit really needs sending to a specialist to have this done, if you want it to look like a professional job?

If you are careful, you can remove the old bezel by levering the crimped edge up with a screwdriver, or cut it off with a small set of tin snips?
It is possible to fit a new glass and bezel and carefully tap the edge of the new bezel over with a very small hammer, but it can look a bit of a mess, and the edge of the bezel is seen where it rests on top of the instrument housing. There is always the risk of breaking the new glass if it is done that way. Unless anyone knows of a better way of doing it?

Another good reference for Mr A E Pople, he did a pair of clocks for a B44 Victor for me, very nice looking.

I had my green spot tacho repaired by SpeedoRepairs – good to deal with and fast turnaround. The cost for a glass replacement only is about £20 (I know this because within weeks of refitting the clock I managed to crack the glass!).

I have contacted Mr Pople and await a reply. Thanks for the help. I'll let you know the outcome.
( :) Must keep an eye on the typo's)!
