TAB II Alloy Tank #3

How about a tank strap where the oil filler screw cap is replaced with a fitting which forms the front mounting point?

Interesting idea Clive. Not sure how it would look terminating at the filler hole, although a filler hole fitting could be fashioned to hold the strap against the tank (in the filler tube aperture). Worth a look.

Oooohhh. Possibly. Good idea
I've always fancied a brown leather tank strap. Might look awful in reality, but always thought about it

There are a few leather alternatives out there if that’s yer thang! I’m not a big fan of this one, but it certainly adds a bit of functionality (storage & tank protection).

Do you know where the grips/seat came from on that?
Bike belongs to Sergio, who hasn’t been on the site for quite some time. My guess is all of the leatherwork would have come from the same leather goods manufacturer - he was Sydney based but no idea where he would have purchased them.

Plenty of custom bike seat manufacturers about Kev, if you want to get your seat covered. ‘Saddlecraft’ will do whatever you want - or select one of their available 961 options.👍

Anybody polishing their ally tank using an electric buffing/polishing machine? If so, what type and using which products?

I do mine by hand. Only take 5-10 mins so cost of a machine isn't justified for that job IMHO. Polish-wise, I use this.....

I’m with you Kev - use Mothers, or Blue Sapphire which I think is a little better, myself.

These don’t get rid of the fine swirls and scratches of course. The correct buffing/polishing machine (used correctly) will do.

Being so anally retentive is a real bind!!

Oh for sure - get your question now. It's on my list for the long-term but not something I've looked into (other than a glance) yet but will get one eventually.

Machine I'm less concerned with, it's the compounds/products that scare me the most

So, the Mk1 tank strap is doing what I intended it to do:

- I think I like the aesthetic; still getting used to it.

- It’s definitely saving the ally tank (which I reckon’ a dangling scrotum would scratch) from my leather jacket’s vindictive zipper!!

- Although there’s little reason to believe that the rubber mounted tank securing studs would seperate, the strap does tie the tank securely to the frame. Belt (or strap) and braces!

Not for everybody - there were some conscientious objectors, but each to his (or her) own!👍

Seat next - ‘fettle til ya settle’!

Works well on the Cafe Racer I think BT - adds a little more (black) detail on the ally tank to tie it in slightly better with the rest of the bike. The ally tank can look a bit disjointed on the black bike I think, where it doesn’t on the silver.

Need to fettle less and ride more! Problem is ya can’t drink beer whilst your ridin’!!🤪🍻

Agree, a polished alloy tank with silver tail looks wrong. Never mind the beer - keep fettling; I can't wait to see what you come up with next! That bike looks truly spectacular - TVS design team should take note.........

Thanks Clive but I’ve always thought that the ally tank works better on the Silver bike - makes the black bike look a bit disjointed. We all see different stuff - beauty, eye, beholder n’all that!

The fettling has been confirmed as a clinical condition - I have a script!!!🤪

Hello TAB 2 gas tank owners ! I wanted to report a rubbing point on my tank . Its rubbing on the frame tubes that come up from the swingarm pivot. It’s deep so it’s been rubbing a while and now I will be going back to the OEM red nylon tank. So heads up !

Good spot Tony.

Just had the tank off to fit the tank strap - didn’t spot any rubbing there but was’nt really looking. Each tank is a different shape of course, but definitely worth checking. 👍
