My 2017 961 has quite a lot of play in the swinging arm is this normal as the book says it has a small amount when I checked the chain tension I could feel the arm move but cant see where the play is at present but im sure its on the drive side I have checked the torque of the pivot bolt . Is the plastic washer a rubbing guide for the chain as im not sure what it does bike has covered 1500 miles only

The pivot bolt doesn't control the play in a swingarm, there is a threaded adjuster in the frame which sets the bearings. If you are concerned, take it in to a dealer and have it checked - there is a special tool required for the job.
The rubber strip on the RHS is indeed a chain rubbing strip.

If you’re handy, the speacial tool can easily be made welding a thick washer perpendicular to a nut file back the edges then just using a socket. That's what we do. If you look at the adjuster you will easily see what I mean.
