Back wheel and swing arm on my '73 750 have a fair bit of lateral play. The isolastics are set up good but I can push/pull the back wheel and see a good bit of sideyways movement. The primary chaincase outer cover joint moves maybe 2-3 mm relative to the frame at the back end of the chaincase and movement is maybe an inch sideyways on the end of the back wheel. Am I right in thinking this is wear to the swing arm spindle bushes ? The internet throws up a few fixes for this - Heinz Keglers' remedy appeals because it looks DIY dooable in the shed, not much disassembly (downtime) and nothing permanent (the fix could be reversed at no damage to the bike)
What are folks' experience of this and anyone recommend the Kegler fix (or alternatives) ?
cheers

If just swing arm spinde/bush slack then only motion will be seen at swing arm cradle inter face. If swing arm stable on spindle then side force on wheel will move the whole power unit and a unit. The couple I've seen the rear wheel move most an inch had most the motion coming from severe worn front iso clearances. All slack locations add up at tire end of lever motion. So look under bike and also at front mount next time jerking with your bike. Spindle collars are good to install even if spindle and bushes stable as new, for now.

Yes - it does look like the power unit and back wheel could be moving as one - I'll check out the front iso again, maybe a simple fix !

If thats the Clamp Straps , the other alternatives are a lot more violent or forcefull . :p

One needs to check the ISO spaceing / Gap WITH the sod Pryed Over , then it should be .005 . in many peoples estimation .

Other trick is to see front is neutrally set in relation to rear . Not offset / cack eyed .
SO , shims out of front , Measure Ea Side , play with prybar & repeat . Sit Down , Wrte Down . Do Arithmatic . Shim to neutral .
SO 2 1/2 ea side clearance on Avg. of measurments on gaps . As in where it WANTS to sit in the middle .DONT ( necesarilly )
fit same no shims Ea Side . THATS why youve measured it , with REAR set . To find ' the middle . then itll still have a half in movement at the back axle . :D
