Hello everybody

How much oil does the swing arm need? Just a shot, or fill it up to the top ? I cant find the maintenance recommandations :( I can't also find the miles it need to replaced or controlled.

Thanks for your help

"Section K10

SWINGING ARM PIVOT LUBRICATION

To maintain the oil content, use a grease gun filled with S.A.E. 140 oil and inject oil sufficient to fill the cavity every 5,000 miles, alternatively, remove the oil nipple and fill with an oil gun....."

As the bushes are made from porous sintered bronze, they will absorb all the oil they need and the excess oil will leak out of the pivot.

The oil filler versions of spindles are a total loss system so it don't matter how much you put it, its will all leak out too soon to leave only a residue of oil that should be topped off when the messing of area slows down. I and other have put easy top off hose with extra oil volume to delay the almost dry state. Sight tube helps to see how fast it flows out. I've a tapped and barbed bolt to replace the factory version if interested. I don't need nor want it no more as I've got grease zerks in both my Commandos now and never expect to me or future generations to suffer rust swollen lipped ridged trapped spindle service trauma. STP like oil is best if you have skill and patience to introduce it. I've tried combo of assembly oil so thick it \would not drip off a knife blade thickly coated for 12 hours, still all leaked out my excessive large tube in cold winter sitting still hung from rafters in brand new finely machined Al cradle and swing arm, bushes and oil rings. Ridiculous! I gave up at that point and fitted zerks, so no dry spindle after years sitting up. You mileage may vary of course, likly faster oil leak than my perfect assembly experiment disappointment.

I filled up mine with a turkey baster through the center hole with the "zerk" fitting off until it ran out the hole. I used 40W90 gear lube, I figure anything you can get in there would be OK, I wasn't able to find 140W. It hasn't leaked for about a week yet although it has not been used either. That may change.

I use the grease gun/140 oil method BUT...if you use a grease gun you have to be careful because you can blow off the end fittings (stripping the threads on the long thin screw) if you are too enthusiastic. This can happen even if you remove the swingarm bolt at the top, hoping this will allow oil to bleed out first. Yes, I know this from personal experience! :)

I undo the oil fitting with the bike on the side stand. I then use a cheap syringe to put oil in. As my man tells me,

Put in a little, often.
