Wondering if there were differences in the swing arm and cradle over the years. The swingarm pivot on my 71 Commando needs attention, and I have a spare cradle and swing arm. Thinking I might just refurbish the spares and pop them in. All I can tell you about the spares is that the pivot pin had no flats milled into it for lock bolts and kegler clamps were never installed.
Thanks

What year is the replacement?
The big change was 75, with non adjustable trans and pinned swing arm pivot.
Before that it was center stand pivot and oil filter drillings.
Just yesterday, I drilled a 71 cradle for my 74/Mk 2. Involved opening the center stand pivot and drilling for the oil filter.
If your still using the existing bushing assembly in the center stand, you may be able to clean up the hole by enlarging it to 9/16" and fitting the upgraded 850 bushing. It's a good improvment..
If it's too far gone, I would use the upgrde bushing in the replacememnt center stand regardless, even if it meant drilling it.

Don't know what year it is. As I said, the pin has no milled spots so its definately not Mk3. No flat milled for the center bolt either so I'm thinking early Mk1? I was really more wondering about the swingarm differences rather than the cradle itself but now I'll make sure to compare carefully.

Well the swinging arms got progressively stronger
You are better off with the gusseted type
The one before the MK3

'Long' spindle and bushes?

'68 - '72, 06-0441 swingarm. No reinforcement gussets.
'73 - 74, 06-4539, with reinforcement gussets and non-sealed (end caps and long bolt) pivot assembly.

Both assemblies have the long spindle and bushes and the swingarms are are interchangeable.

Also, the sealed (welch plug) 850 Mk2/2A swingarm has a short spindle but with the central bolt and short 'Mk3' bushes. Again, interchangeable with the previous types with the correct 'sealed' pivot parts.
