It was a beautiful day here in California. I rode down the 5 freeway and over the Ortega Hwy mountain, and back up the 15 freeway. I am happy to report the Access Norton MK3 is running flawlessly. Putting those Toga exhausts on last week really make a huge difference to mid range power. Now my commando sounds like a commando should too. I have new mirrors on it now that I really like as well. To all you out there who are rebuilding or thinking about doing it, a quick message to say that it is really worth it in the end! I have just over 3000 miles since I finished mine and it is totally sorted.

Cheers

You know that is one good looking machine you have there. The mirrors are a nice compliment. I would like some like that. The paint color is also very period looking even if there were no green Norton's. We are certainly spoiled here in CA as to our ride weather. I wanted to go today but we have just gotten over 3 inches of much needed rain here in the SF area. I love the fact that on New Years day you can go for a ride in your shorts if you want to. East coasters, eat your hearts out.

Just looked at the map re Ortega hwy. Back in 1968 we used to take Crown Valley Parkway to Dana Point Beach and Tennis Club. It was a private enclave with double wide trailers that were like manions on the beach. Halfway in from I5 there was a Thrifty drug store where ice cream was a nickle a scoop. Yep , a triple was 15 cents. Back then they had punched the road and development was getting underway. Now Dana Point beach has a public access and small parking area.It is a nice little 1/4 mile beach just north of the now harbor. You can walk around the rocks to the harbor from the beach. It is a good beach to visit.

Theres something about green just love the colour, good that its all sroted and running great, as it should, after 39 years of ownimg mine and never having no break downs on the road in that time, they are a reliable bike and will always get you home (except for a broken chain)

Sweet. Man, your bike makes me hanker for a Roadster tank again like I had on my old mk3, since I don't do enough long rides here in NZ for my Interstate.

I would have three tanks then, with my Hi-rider! LOL

Thanks . It's moving around in the double fibre layer cast right fine and toes wiggling about good tonight. Cut and split on Dec. 18 th for cast no. 4 and lighter and final. The tools they use are amazing. Special shop vac Circular blade cutter ( eliminates dust from fracture ward ) by expert (who drives R6 but must sell baby and mortgage on way ) , then giant splitter tongs ,stainless , 3 splits each time. Then physio 2 wks. , then Mexico. My life. :|

Jerry, is that a custom built seat/tail pc.? Corbin smuggler? http://corbin.com/triumph/bonnevillesmuggler.shtml

Yes its the corbin. My mrs got it for me for my birthday. A very nice gift. Then Brent painted it. Its comfortable like all corbins and reassuring to have some tools there. I have 2 lithium batteries in parallel so not much room for anything else below the seat. I am surprised how much the seat compartment holds.

Thanks for the comment about my MK3.

They don't make Toga for commando anymore unfortunately. I had an old set in the garage. Most of the companies that sell peashooters dont tell you how they have the flutes setup inside, wish that they would. I would like to know which companies if any make them like these Toga. I think the Toga might be similar to the original setup. I posted a photo at this thread: http://www.accessnorton.com/more-less-quiet-peashooters-t9050-15.html - You can see inside the Toga and how the flutes are compared to another peashooter I had purchased. Hope that helps.

Nice Jerry. Actually it was 70 F here the other day, but not today.

Actually, Norton offered the Commando roadster in green in 1970. It had a fiberglass tank in metallic green with matching side covers.

Ride on Jerry! Ortega is one of to few great local roads. From our area I skip the Freeways though, I take Santiago cny, turn Left @ Cooks corner, ride through the tree tunnels of Oak cny, go Right @ Santa Margarita & Left @ Antonio Parkway all the way to the beginning of the Ortega. Take it to the 15 South to Right @ Hwy 76 all the way to Pacific Coast Hwy in Oceanside. (Great vistas w/ a gazebo) then up the coast to Laguna cny rd and back to Santiago cny all the way home.. Door to door canyon roads!!! I call it my "Ortega loop". And yes Aceceda, Dana Point is nice, did that ride Sunday for late lunch with Josh (transcon here). His Norton is being worked on so I had to try (futaly) to keep up with his K1300. He kept it down below 135 mph most of the time due to traffic... Fun times!! We'll have to do "the loop" soon Jerry. Glenn T.S.

Hey Glen, sorry I missed you last weekend. That "loop" sounds fun. Maybe this weekend- PM me

Cheers

Winter is coming! Time for a Norton Club Christmas Party!

Glad you are enjoying that machine Jerry. She looks great. And Ortega Highway to boot. I lived in Southern Orange County for many years. And while I never rode over Ortega, I ran my old Shelby GT350 and later a Boss 302 many times over Ortega. There are still many great roads like that, despite all the building going on, Idyllwild to Palm Desert, Angeles Crest Hwy, also awesome drives/rides. It's snowing today here in Vermont, so none of that for me for a bit!
