I am leaning towards the straight back more traditional style, but I am curious as to what other riders think. One reason for goingto the straight back style is that I would cut the header pipe before they kick up making the exhaust shorter, the other reason is that it would be easier to mount these silencers going straight back rather than kicking up. The peashooters may also be modified, I am thinking of cutting off the end and putting a supertrapp disk stack on the end, kind of like the flat track racers have (had??)

The floor jack came from Canadian Tire, they were on sale a few weeks ago at $100. It looks strong enough to lift a car :) As anything these days, it's probably made in China though.

I definitely prefer the peashooters in the swept up configuration. I suppose you have already purchased the silencers, but if you wanted the straight back look, you could go to the earlier style silencers that the first Commandos inherited from the Atlas.

I also vote for standard Commando upswept, as my preference.

HOWEVER, tritons are a bit of a rare breed in that thier styling cues are traditionally late 50s to 60, not 70s. So, the Atlas "horizontal" layout is more in the tradition.

I like the upswept with the pea shooter but if you went horizontal, I'd go with an Atlas style Pear shaped silencer, or even interstate silencers if the rear sets don't interfere. Pea shooters look funny to me when placed horizontally.

jeandr, where did you get the bar end signals from? Are they 7/8" ?

Under the seat please Jean

Under the seat please Jean!

I had straight plain meggas on the Honda racer they look right, didnt like them on the Dommie. Any special has got to have upswept but like I said Jean go the whole hog & mount them under the seat!
Love the bike
all the best Chris

The peashooters are on loan, but they are the only ones I found which fit right to the header pipes. These are replicas, not originals and as I mentionned, I probably will modify them to look more like megaphones capped with a stack of supertrapp disks with either an open end if I can stand the racket or with a cap on the end which would make them a lot quieter for me and everyone ese. I found a lot of aftermarket silencers but they all had a bunch of adapters to make them fit the Norton's headers and from my younger days, these always looked like shit.

Yes, the bar end indicators are 7/8", an oriental copy of the BMW style indicators from the '50s. As for the peashooter silencers, they will not look like peashooters when I am finished.

 not even considering under the seat, too modern looking.

Picture of another with upswepts

I had this picture of another featherbed framed commando with upswept peashooters if some visuals have trouble picturing what they would look like finished.

Exhaust

I'm interested in the kickstart - in the first photos I cannot see how it could 'hinge-out' without fouling the gear pedal - the last photo shows a considerably different type.

Search for "kickstart", there is a looooong thread about this very subject of modified kickstart levers (fifth page). The one I have is built from the bottom part of a Norton kickstart lever and the top part of a Honda CB750 kickstart lever welded together. The one on the last pictue is not mine, it "was" available sometime ago from Raber's in Caliornia, but they can't get them anymore.
