Super Sale??

$3,500 pretty damn spendy for a machine in that condition...should be able to pick one up in similar condition for $1,500.

"should be able to pick one up in similar condition for $1,500."

Yeah, I was thinking the same amount... Even the actresses favorite "soft focus" doesn't make this bike look very appealing for 3.5k

If this bike is in the US and that's US dollars it's not too bad for a running 75 with electric start.

Pay a kid $100.00 to clean and polish it and then take another look.

I would love to have the address' of the rocks you live under, ocassionally I need peace and quiet :D

$3500 for an unmolested Mk III is a steal !! Even has the black caps in place.

I'd like to go back to the day of the $1,500 running Commando as well, but it's long gone. That is one with a steel tank, seat, clocks, exhaust. Not some carcass that supposedly "runs".

A running but ratty example is worth more than a non-runner that's been cleaned up. You never know what's buggered until you have to fix it to find out what else is buggered. I agree $3500 is a bit much for that one, but I also agree you won't touch a runner for $1500.

Don't know if "fresh" is the word, and "steal" isn't even close. I recall someone in these parts picking up a bike of this sort and literally "paying the price" to go through it and sort it out. What's that sitting in the background?

Scholar...I wouldn't exactly call it a rock. Boston is somewhere around the 20th largest city by population, I'm in a smaller city, but still in the top 50. The MKIII in question is a $1,500 bike in this area, it's just not much of a rarity to see a Commando out on the road. Running Commandos can be had for $1,500 easy, or less if you look. I can say that a good friend just picked up three Commandos last week, two running with titles, one rough, for $275 each. The only seller stipulation was that he had to buy all three. Yeah...probably sounds like BS, but so does the $50 MKIII in boxes that ended up in my garage last year.

Cheap Commandos are out there...YMMV.

Just a lot harder to find!

It's not likely the seller is advertising it for sale. I stumbled on my '59 Bonneville when a mutual friend gave me the number of a friend who had a basket case he thought was a '69 and would probably sell it. I was looking for a unit twin to put in a featherbed. It turned out it was "only" a '59 and he would have to have $100 (w' title)!

I've also pulled a number of Commandos and G15's out of sheds because the owner was moving and was now into H-D's or something other than motorcycles and was more interested in getting it out of there rather than making a lot of money on it.

crazy...I always read about all these deals... bikes around here are super expensive. The kind where you look at it and think yeah keep dreaming. Then they whine about how they need the money, but don't come down on the price. Then it ends up sitting there for months, and eventually doesn't sell.

The only cheap Commando is the one you buy for 10000$ that somebody else put all his money and time in to restore .

No truer words ever said. Although I've not seen any previously owned for sale, I would think a CNW Commando would probably be the best buy out there.

I think Ludwig is correct with this statement.

I talked to the seller Saturday afternoon, he was pissed at the people who showed up and Low Balled him and left leaving Dealer Business cards.
He said he had 4 offers of $2500 but was holding out for $3500.
Thats a 72 combat in the back ground that he is planning to fix up.

Hey, while I am here can sombody please tell me the stock length of a MK3 rear wheel Dummy Axle head ( The Spacer part length).
I'm making a solid axle up and want to verify the length of the stock spacer with my measurments.
Thanks

Exactly what I'm getting at...my ears always perk up when I hear, "My uncle's bike is still in my aunt's garage, but he died 20 years ago...".

Even if you get it for free , you'll end up putting way more money in it than it will ever be worth .

Been there, done that...but it's a better habit than drinking or drugs.

wish I could find a combat for $1500. May not have money, but I wouldn't hesitate to use a credit card on a super sale lol

Sure seems that $3500 is on the high side, despite the complete condition; I find this hard to believe, but the majority of responses support this. I will be in the market for another Commando in about 2 years and I will be leaning on all you low-ballers for leads. Maybe it's just New England, Nortons are very rare here indeed; short of going to a Brit bike meet-up they just don't stick out. I recently purchased a '72 Combat for $2300 in CT and was breating hard all the way home looking at it in the bed of the pick-up I was driving...

Given what it costs to build/restore a Norton I would think a purchase price under $5000 would be inconsequential, maybe not?
