Sump plug question

Just dropped the sump plug on my 1970 Roadster for the first time due to oil leak. It has the Norvil sump plug kit with magnet but I found another length of magnet sitting loose in the strainer....could there be another magnetic plug elsewhere that has fractured (or did the PO drop it in for good measure) ?
Also even after a few minutes running prior to undoing the plug it still dropped about 1/2 pint of oil - is this normal ?
Finally (being more used to Triumphs) should there be a scavenge pipe going into the strainer - seems strange to have a strainer but no way to pull the "clean" oil out the centre.

It sounds like a PO extra, I think?

That would depend to a certain extent how long those "few minutes" were, and how much oil was in the sump to start with?

There's no scavenge pipe.

The scavenged oil flows in the in the opposite direction-so it enters through the hole in the top of the strainer and exits from the side holes.

Sump plug question

If you haven't already reinstalled the sump strainer, you might want to do a search of posts about how the wise & experianced here have said to solder the clip in or replace it with a O.D. Spring clip. Aperantly they sometimes come loose & eat internal engine parts. Going to do mine soon.
