Well guys I finally got that no.2 nut loose. Made a ultra thinwall 15mm box and it fit perfect. Then do the same with a 14mm for the front right nut. Now that all fasteners are off the head I figured it would lift right of. No way. Smacking it with a plastic deadblow hasn't helped. I can see a copper gasket in there. Do they stick badly on the 750? Need some expert suggestions. Please Please don't say jack it full of grease through a spark plug hole.
Rich :(

Jack it full of grease through a spark plug hole.

:D

Considering you don't know what a previous owner stuck the barrel down with it could take a bunch of tries to get it off.

Sorry, someone has to be the one to ask the obvious question: Can you confirm that you have actually removed all ten head fasteners?

As the head would normally begin to lift due to the valve spring pressure as the last bolt (1) is slackened off.

Knew that was comming. I didn't think any compounds were necessary with a copper hd gasket. You are probably right though. Bet it's thread locker.

Well LAB I 'm pretty sure I got em all. Didn't count though. Did some serious eyeballing with a flashlite though. I'm at work now. think I'll go to Old Brits and look at the exploded view again.

SHI_ ! I don't remember seeing that one in the center front. Bet that's it. Some old fool forgot to take that one out. I'll check it out when I get home.

I use a wooden door wedge. Insert between head and barrel and gently tap. Swap around to the opposite side and repeat front to back, side to side and it will gently rise up.

You mean after you've removed all the nuts.

The #1 bolt is still in place. covered over with dirt so that there didn't look like one was even there. should have counted from the get go.
Thanks guys.

That wooden wedge cab break fins if there was copper-coat on the head gasket and a few long years of heat cycles...

...then again, so can a plastic hammer!

(Don't ask)

If I have to tap or pry to remove a head I use a short length of wooden 2X2 at the exhaust ports and the intake boss and tap with a light ball peen hammer. Avoid placing anything on the fins!

Head is off now. really easy with that last bolt out. Found the broken off end of that bad push rod. Don't see much damage other than the fine metal that is no doubt throughout the crankcase. Pistons both have .020 on them. One rebuild? They sure did bang up the cyclinder top on the gasket surface. Done by a grammer school mechanics class? Case is leaking. Can't imagine why :| . Curious what size incerts are in it. I will be posting the boring photos. Just haven't gotten around to doing the photobucket thing. I always like pictures and I'm sure many here do as well.
I've been very protective of the fins. It came with 4 broken ones on the rt exhaust area. There is an AL welding business near where I work so I thought I might show it to him. Heard he was pretty good.

I might have some donor fins for you; from a different type of head, but they are nice and big so you can cut the shape you need then trim it up.

sounds good grandpaul. I will shoot a closeup of the area and post them or email pic to you to see if what you have will work . Is that the way it is done ie: welding another fin on? I'm surprized. I figured it was just built up until there was enough to shape a new fin.
Finally got that broke off sparkplug out. Worst I've ever done. Took 5 hrs (off and on depending on the frustration level).

If you're paying someone by the hour you'll want to go with the "weld-the-old-fin" option. Much faster and you'll have better results.

That of course depends on where the fin broke. If it's just the very tip (.5in or so) then maybe it will be better to weld it up.

Hey GrandPaul thanks for the offer . Before you bust them off ..I got plenty of Al sheet in different thicknesses. Wouldn't that work or will it not weld to cast?
