I just bit the bullet and ordered the tool from Commando Specialties, worked like a charm and only $18. Figured it was easier to get the tool and use it than tear up several seals and having to take the timing cover off several times. Same thing for the caliper tool, purchased it from Old Britts and it has a bearing removal tool on the opposite end. Better to use the right tool the first time I feel.

I think I used some rubber tape. Just something you can pull off later and won't get stuck inside the cover. But then I'm Mr. Cheapo. The thinner the better.

Just use a small socket that is a hair bigger than the end of the cam. Slip in the seal first and then let the end of the cam push the socket through.

I've got a new points seal install tool and an original out of a tool kit...I use the socket.

Agree on the socket. I use a Craftsman 1/4" socket of some sort, and they have rounded ends, not a sharp edge on them. I dab a little grease on it as well.
