Hi there folks,
Another old basket case under restoration!
I am the proud owner of a ’72 750 that has unfortunately seen better days.
After purchasing the machine I whipped the head off to find brand new 10 thou pistons and the bore marks still fresh in the cylinder. Unfortunately the bike has been stored for many years without spark plugs and the weather has made its way in.
The cylinder has rust deeper than a 60 thou re-bore will fix.
My local Norton man recommends sourcing a set of second hand barrels rather than install liners.
Apparently installing liners weaken the lower edge of the barrels and they are prone to fracture.
Do any of you learned folk have any experience with liners? The bike will only see service on the road and not given too much stick.
Also can the liner be bored so I can use the 10 thou pistons?
Thanks
Dave
