As a matter of curiosity I would like to know if the original pinstriping was usually painted, or if some years had vinyl stripes. Also, the Norton logo, was that typically vinyl? Was there a different method used on different years or even different colors?

(Seems like I remember on my '74 Interstate getting wax trapped around the Norton lettering, but I can't for the life of me remember if the gold stripe was painted or not)

Thanx,
Russ

I've had 2 b/g Combats, one IS fibre, one steel roadster tank and both had the pin strip peeling off in places I could pull on as if it was a vinyl decayed strip. Yet I've read stories of Norton painter laying down the strip by hand and eye alone.
Regardless how factory did it, it tricky task to reproduce again. I gave up like many with just the decal or stencil logo.

The blue '74 in the avatar has a silver stripe that is definitely paint. My Interstate tank has a gold stripe that is definitely a stick on (vinyl or other). I know the blue is original, I have no idea of the black and gold Interstate tank.

My `71 Roadster FG tank had an obviously hand-painted single stripe.
The Logo was (none too well-applied) decal

All tank and panel pinstripes were hand painted as far as I know.

As L.A.B. says. Brush painted. I've had lots of NOS parts over the years and never seen anything else.

It's really an 850 thing as only the black 750 had lining.

Decals did vary. Originally transfers, the later 850s at least had 3-M die-cut vinyl.
