I bought a kickstart off Ebay which was advertised as being for a Commando with Norvil rear sets. Looking at the photo, it seemed that the shaft had an extra bend in it near the top, moving the folding lever further out and away from the rearsets and exhaust.

I bought it and it duly arrives the following day. Lovely piece of kit, good chrome etc. Unfortunately when I tried it on my bike it fouls the exhaust pipe badly since the bottom part of the lever is not angled out from the gearbox, but rather it's parallel to the bike's centerline.

It looks as if it was intended for a bike running a 2-1, but I've never seen a kickstart like this before. I have a not so good photo here so you can see what I mean.
Before I contact the seller or try to sell it on, it would be nice to know what model Norton it's intended for.

Strange kickstart - what is it off?

For someone with a S or SS , the shaft straight from the fitting spline means thats not going to twist & loosen as often . If its longer , thats not a bad idea either .

The top fixing identifies it as being made in Italy according the the NOC notes, so its off an Italian bike and modified to fit or made in Italy as an aftermarket job.

The advert states “and is designed to be used with rear-set footrests made by Norvil.”
It might be a special Norvil racing part :?:

Ditto on the Italian aftermarket. I'm pretty sure I have one laying around in the garage somewhere.

Not too long ago we had a thread on kickers. I remember Mr S from AN said
that just that day he had a proof piece of the straight type kicker for rearsets
ready for approval.
Perhaps he will speak here and give us a heads up on availability?

Just been writing ot the Ebay seller about this. Not very helpful, they will not refund postage costs, so if I return this item I will still be out of pocket for around 30 UKP or so. I will probably keep it and do some heating and bending. Rather a pity really sice the chrome is really good.

A bit disappointed with the attitude of the seller though, but that's Ebay buying for you.

/Steve.

FWIW, i just put Norvil rearsets on my MKIIa Commando and the bike had a MkIII kickstart installed. The MkIII shaft sticks out from the bike more and provides more clearance around the muffler. The MkIII shaft fits fine with plenty of clearance around the rearsets for me. I did have to move the kickstart shaft several degrees aft though so that it was not sticking into my calf while riding. This gives you a bit shorter distance and less leverage for kickover but it still works fine for me.
