I bought one of these sump plugs a while ago, mainly to have a smaller, controllable flow when the plug is removed (yes - I know, there should be no flow - whatever!)
Subsequently I have read/heard horror stories of the clip coming out inside the crankcase... etc, disastrous etc.
Early books recommend soldering the clip to the washer. Do I need to do this?
I plan on installing a cartridge filter - so should I justt pull the clip, washer and gauze out and purely use it as a convenient single point waste oil connection, with magnetic plug?
Any advice welcome
Cheers

Personally I wouldn’t bother soldering it in there, as solder can have an equally nasty habit of becoming dislodged and getting in awkward places in the engine- especially if you didn’t tin and clean the component correctly.
As with ANY circlip when after inserting them get a circlip plies or screwdriver and from one end try to turn it round and do the same on reverse. This will ensure it fits into the grove fully.
The main reason why any Internal or External circlips come loose is because someone was carless in fitting it back in :!:
