Stay up float quick check-adjust.

I want to ride my BSA 441 Shooting Star tomorrow and the only thing I need to do is put the recently cleaned Carb back together. I have a new Stay up float and needle and would like to adjust the float but all my tools, vice etc are in storage so I don't realy have the quick means to set up the "Sight tube" etc etc.. Is there a easy way of just physicaly measuring the height and bending the tabs to get it right???

Ooops, just realized I can do this with just a eye dropper to add gas (anything wrong with using water?) and measure/adjust by hand. Any tips?? Thanks.
