I would add that for most of my life the USA was viewed certainly from here to be greatest Country on the planet , the leaders come and go , still a great country .... back during the first WW Halifax literally blew up , largest man caused explosion to date in history .... first response of relief was from Boston , something folks around here have never forgotten , Boston gets the City Christmas tree every year from a very proud Nova Scotian ... I have great faith in our southern neighbours to do the right thing and in winter sometimes wonder why my fore fathers stopped here knowing what was just a little further south ... No because the right wing of American politics adheres to any double standard that comes up and enables them to rationalize nearly any abhorrent behavior from their gods.

Trump whined about Obama playing golf and now taxpayers have paid more for Trump's golf outings than all previous Presidents of either stripe combined. He calls Hilary "crooked" when he's the biggest crook ever to ascend to high office. Nixon was a politician who turned into a crook to attempt to hold power. Trump was a crook BEFORE he ever considered politics. Ask some of the businessmen who went belly-up while Trump lawyered out of paying them for building his projects. He has more lawyers watching his ass than a Mafia kingpin. I think he picked Giuliani because he's the only guy who comes off whackier than Trump himself. His administration has done little to help with prison overcrowding because one after another of his associates are marching off to make license plates. Make room for Rudy.

Why do you support Trump? Are you of the 1%? A fellow narcissist? Had multiple bankruptcies? Sexual liaisons with a porn star while married? Do you refuse to pay people you contract to do work for you? These are things that are for the record, nor are they denied by Trump. Hardly innuendo.

Just like here in the General election - working class people voted against their “representative party” (Labour Party) because they did not believe the current MPs represented their interests in the election - they “lent” their vote to the Conservatives but it is believed they will return to traditional parties next time.
When DJT was elected, the American voters felt the established politicians no longer represented them and he was “singing the same tune as they were”
In both countries the party elected was voted in with a minority of the vote due to the electoral college and the constituency boundaries (UK)

My bill was for $3,400. I'm sure that's what I said, but that aside, it was not an "emergency room procedure". It was a scheduled test to check my heart to determine the cause of my high blood pressure. My point was that at the $6,800. per hour billing rate, the problem with the healthcare system seems to be unreasonable cost. As for me having exorbitantly expensive insurance to pay for other people's care, that only makes sense to me IF requiring everyone to buy insurance brings the cost down to ~ $200 per person per month AND that the care given, just based on that insurance coverage with no other billed payments to the patient covers the bulk of simple health care treatment. (Certainly there could be some extremely costly surgical procedures exempted)

Of course elective surgery would be different. The point is that ACA was never about making healthcare more affordable. It was about shifting the costs. My friend switched from doing cabinet work to doing mobile sonograms for pregnancy where he visits their home, rather than they go to a hospital for the procedure. I think he gets $150. per visit. Not quite the same as the $3,400. that the hospital charges...

As for me sticking it to myself. The ACA was Obama's deal, not the republicans. It didn't bring the cost down. It's naive of you to think that either party is fighting to reduce the financial burden on you regarding your health care, but I imagine if you were a union guy with a pension, you have a good health care plan through your union, so perhaps YOU aren't getting screwed paying for other people's care, but that's what the ACA does.

Your take away is the evil republicans are screwing you and YOU vote for them. My take away is they are both screwing us regardless of who we vote for...

Would you trust Bill Clinton, Gary Hart, John Edwards, or Ted Kennedy more? You seem to think there's a good guys and a bad guys party... I think there's 2 fucked up parties, fucked up in different ways, but both fucked up. I hope that Trump's successes change the entire system for the better. There's certainly no guarantee that will happen, and in fact seeing people like Tom Steyer and Mark Cuban consider running for president seems to be breaking the mould of presidents being the worst possible people,... Ivy league lawyers..

With all of the hand wringing taking place some bag balm had best be on the shopping list because, if not now, it'll really be necessary come November for one group or the other. I'll vote, but that act is really a private act with good reason. Pretty much the same for in depth opinions over things of which I have no real control..... That's what I think Trump's presidency is. The republican voters were so disgusted with the party, they "lent" their votes to a non-traditional, non-party annointed candidate as a protest vote. The only hope of this move by the voters having an effect on the behavior of their party in the future, is if the wild card candidate who is elected has a successful run in office. Then the party has to reorient itself towards it's voter's concerns more than their financial backers concerns. As Pete mentioned perhaps the financial interests of elected officials is the reason we get polarized insanity, rather than sane, moderate compromises.

Why should Trump be supported?

1. Today’s democrats are courting socialism.

2. Capitalism provides an avenue for people born into poverty to ascend to wealth and comfort using their talents skills and perseverance. Socialism stifles creativity and inventiveness as there are no rewards.

3. Capitalism is a tried and true method of sustaining an economy.

4. Trump supports capitalism.

5. There is not enough wealth on planet earth to properly support socialism as a way of life for a free people.

6. In socialism, the government will provide you a “place” to live, food to eat, a job that allows you to pay your 90% tax rate and a certain level of healthcare along the same lines as farmer’s livestock. The American Civil War was fought to end this practice.

I would defend anyone from bias attacks, as I did Greta in a previous thread. Did Socrates deserve that hemlock? Would I defend anyone from false attacks? A: Probably Yes, Obama included.

Trump may be a huge dick, but he's right about the disfunctional way our government has worked. Since the rise in the power of the "media state", it's all been a puppet show to win the government control to hand out the contracts to your buddies and make a fortune for those on your side. It didn't matter which side got elected. (excepting maybe jimmy carter who seems like a straight arrow to me) I think Trump is proving that the idea which proposes that presidents need to be from some Ivy league law school in order to be qualified for the presidency is false. In fact the country is doing pretty well by most economic indicators. The worst group you could chose a president from is Ivy league lawyers.

No need to preach to me, I got my own politics to worry about .... for some reason Canadian version is just so boring compared to what goes on in USA .... that not to say there no issues worth yelling about
