I have supplied several chains for the Alton starter to forum members.

It would nice to hear how they are performing, I presume they are doing OK
but feedback is good.

Andy

Are you saying you supplied replacement chains for the original Alton chains or that you provide the chains for the Alton starters as oem?

I had never heard of any issues with the chains supplied with the starters so I'm curious, especially since the start chain is totally stationery and has no load at all except when the start button is being pressed. Doesn't seem like much "work" for a chain but I'm certainly no chain expert.

I was replacing chains on other Brit bikes with Alton starters, see previous threads.

The chains may spend most of the time stationary but when they are used the system
developes quite some initial torque.

I offered them a bullet proof alternative based on me having to supply replacements but
to date nothing. I have supplied several to Nortons in particular and it would be good to
hear how they performing.

PS The "big pin" chain is being used by a forum member to good effect on cam drives.

Hi Andy,
mine has only just been fitted, and i have a dodgy front disc to sort before it will be rideable, and after that a 3 1/2 week tour of Patagonia   before i will get many miles on the bike - so a few months here before any reports to be made.
cheers
iain

Just 2 years after meeting Alton they have ordered some chains !!!!!!!!!

They are 0.6mm wider than standard but have a big pin 4.4 against 3.3 and
no rollers to fail.

They are already running on many Alton systems.

Andy

PS Alton was offered chains a couple of years ago after I saw them at Stafford.
I was already getting enquiries for chains so knew there could be an isue. They
did not take up my offer then so why now?

....Andy, maybe because like you said.... "They are already running on many Alton systems........ & ......."I was already getting enquiries for chains so knew there could be an issue"....... They did not take up my offer then so why now?
Also maybe because CNW is gonna have a go at it and will probably hit a home run with their design, cornering the Norton market. No idea really Andy, I'm just saying :D
