Some pictures of my rebuild as it starts. Don't have much at this point just a frame and front end.

Looks great, maybe we can all come over and watch the progress from the sofa.....we don't eat too much!........Skip

Sure, there is lots of beer in the fridge and tons of old bike magazines to read through.

Sometimes I go into the house but not too often :D

looking forward to following your build thread, looks to be a great start :) since you have no engine , what direction are you going to go with it ?

Nice bike you got there in the background. Motor looks to be sitting on the bench above the gas tank cj&me. Compressor sure makes beer fridge look small...

Not to Worry ; looks like theres plenty of parts on that red one over by the bench , that should fit .

Thanks for the comments and encouragement. These builds really take a while and parts can be expensive so encouragement can help sustain momentum.

I have most of a motor on the bench but it needs to be completely rebuilt.

Yes, my other Commando is in the background. I bought a set of triple trees and front fender from CNW. Garry was nice enough to bring them to the rally in Wyoming last year while I was driving through. Anyways, I had a set of triple trees, a front fender, front wheel hub and rear wheel hub that I was going to put on my other Commando but my wife said "Hey you have most of a second bike there! You should build another Commando." She has two bikes herself and I think she wants a brit bike. She has also suggested that when not actively building a bike I am "A SOB who walks around the house complaining".

I am not sure what the bike will look like when completed. I really like to fabricate my own parts but I want to keep the bike looking stock. Every bike I have built in the past always turns out different than what I was thinking about when I started. I really like the CNW look and style and love the upgrades they have. Chopped/non traditional stuff hurts my eyes. I also like to work metal engraving (not my own work) into metal parts.

Cheers,
Kyle

Everybody should be so lucky to have a wife like yours.

+1

We had twins three weeks ago, and I have a month off. Today my wife says, "Maybe you should work on your bike today?", even though the twins decided not to sleep 11pm-3am last night. Bless her cotton socks.

I have a stack of parts I have ordered and have been cleaning out room in the garage so I can get my bike up out of the shed, and only have one make-room project left before I can do that. We have a spare couch somewhere to go with the valve amps and the garage fridge...

It's been awhile but working on the motor now. Some pics.

Looking good and making progress, thanks for posting. One question comes to mind, are you re-using the same crank shaft hardware? I thought that they stretched when they are torqued to spec's, or is that just the connecting rod hardware that I'm thinking of.
