I need a chain replacement for a Mk3 that will be used for limited travel on nice days.
I am familiar with DID 50 in 530 chain, but want to know if there are better choices for a Mk3 Norton.

IWIS.

What size gearbox sprocket as 20T (and possibly 21T) use a 99 link ('half-link') chain.

From the above link:
The only problem is that some Commandos and other brit bikes often need single
links such as 99 links and these links are just not available for Jap chains.

There is no USA supply of good 530 chain, 100 link for a Norton Mk3?
DID, RK, Renthal, Diamond, EK, etc.

Is there...?

You should certainly be able to buy IWIS, DID, in the US. If you need a 100 link 530 chain then it shouldn't be a problem.
There's also Renold but it's overpriced in my opinion.

Also mentioned in the link by Andy, I had forgotten about the boil up chain lubricant since last seeing in the later 1970's (Duckhams iirc)

Holy Moly - I used to do that in the old days - after cleaning, boil the chain with grease in a pan in the kitchen. I had NO idea that ANYBODY still did this kind of stuff! Anything Retro seems to be the latest new thing! As a young person (estimating early 20's) told me at a Steam Punk fair in Llangollen last year, "Anything that your great-grandfather wore or owned is cool!"
Weird!!!!!
When I was in my early 20's I thought that anything my parents did was hopelessly old and irrelevant. Grandparents or great grandparents being cool? Get real! ;)

Before good, no-fling chain lube, I used to keep a spare chain. I would soak it in used motor oil and then hang it to drip dry. When the chain on the bike got dry and rattly, I'd swap it for the one on the hanger.

Is JWIS chain identifiable with stamped side plates on the chain?
I don't find much info on JWIS at the chain man website.

It's IWIS not JWIS. I like RK. Had no trouble buying 2 of them on eBay a few years ago. #50 is industrial chain. Not for bikes.

Do you have a chain breaker? That way you are not stuck with finding exactly 100 links.

There was a “youth movement” in 1950s Britain, called the teddy boys. Their style was vaguely based on pre-WW1 Edwardian (their grandparents’) era fashions.

Something like the zoot suit look in the US.

They had watch chains and very oily hair, probably not synthetic oil.

We have been stamping our brandname JWIS onto our products right from the beginning.

This ensures quick and easy identification of our products.

So when you get your chain from Jason, what exact spec is supplied? ANSI or ISO606?

I've run RK 530KS chains for years on my 750. They are readily available from any bike shop and inexpensive and have lasted very well when kept clean and lubed.
