Hi there,
Here is my experience with SS headers:
Years a go I buy the Maney 2 in 1 and I have cracks in the headers, I find somebody here in Belgium to make me SS headers, but sleeved at the cylinder head
Never as one problem any more, more I keep the headers and put them on the Sunburst

I THOUGHT that stainless steel was harder, therefore more difficult to cut and machine etc, but had less tensile strength and was more liable to fatigue.
But, as I say, this is only what I thought. Perhaps best to seek the views of someone who has a more qualified opinion than I.

Stainless is not equal to austenitic steels, e.g., AISI 316 (UNS S31600) or 308 (UNS S30800). The Chromium content is 15-20 % only. These alloys will stain sooner or later ..... For true stainless performance, super duplex steels should be used, e.g. UNS S32750. Duplex steels have a microstructure consisting of austenite and ferrite, which provides a combination of enhanced corrosion resistance of austenitic stainless steels with greater strength.

In a virgin state, austenitic and duplex steels exhibit excellent ductility and no brittleness.

Aisi 308 and 316 exhibit strain ("work") hardening when cold worked and need to be solution heat treated to avoild cracking if loaded dynamically. Although these alloys have excellebnt ductility, it's better to shape exhaust headers out of austenitic steels in a hot state. Please note that austenitic steels have a high thermal expansion. This could cause additional stresses. Some grades are also susceptible to "hot cracking" when welded due to residual stresses because of differential thermal expansions.

Duplex steels will not work harden when cold worked, but are harder to process due to their inherent strength.

You should see what's left of baffle plates after 1-2 years of gas turbine exhaust blasting through them. That stuff is mostly 310, 316, 308. Cracked, broken, warped, brittle. Pure junk.
I don't believe a Norton exhaust is hot enough to really warrant the use of exotics aside from something which is going to remain ductile over time with the temp extremes & vibration.
 
The more I look at these the more I'm liking them, I might have to locate a exhaust maker locally
