Stainless steel engine mounting and head, jug bolts

Three of my SS engine mounting bolts sheared off with less than 500 miles on them. They are NOT hardened bolts and I think should NOT be used for engine mounts. I am concerned about the ones that we we used to join the cylinders and head together.

I worked with stainless pipe and bolts in the plumbing and fitting industry for many years in pharmaceutical and brewing plants. Stainless is a very touchy metal. It will seize together without using anti seize . It is a very hard metal but a very brittle metal.

What does anyoneelse think ?

Common stainless bolts are definitely not up to the task for engine mounting bolts.

There are stainless bolts available that will suit the purpose. Such as ARP stainless bolts from CNW. Jim

Stainless steel is an alloy and like any other alloy, it's composition and heat treatment affect the characteristics of the final product. Low-grade stainless tubing, which is used in automotive and motorcycle exhaust plumbing will develop surface rust, which many people do not expect.
