I want to move the final drive sprocket on an 850 trans over to the left about 1/2". Basicly get it as close to the clutch basket as possible without fouling the chain. Is there a stock gear used on another transmission that has some offset in it and will fit the 850 output shaft ?
It's for the transmission I'm putting in this old Harley 45

I don't know of any. I made one once by cutting the center out of one and the outside off another and welding them together. Jim

With a bit of machining, anything is possible. Take a look at the pictures starting with this one http://www.pbase.com/jeandr/image/74359401 You could do the same by using two sprockets and machine both so the teeth are ofset by what you needand weld them together.

BTW Cool looking bike, you should post pictures in the "anything else motorcycle related section of these forums"

A couple of options come to mind:

Use a cut-down gearbox sprocket center to shim the sprocket outboard--three or four threads on the outboard side should suffice; or

Cut additional threads on the sleeve gear on the inboard lands and solidly locate the sprocket between sprocket nuts.

It might also be feasible to shim the entire gearbox to the left slightly as some do to provide chain clearance for bigger tires, or actually locate the clutch basket inboard by removing the circlip and grounding the clutch center on to the mainshaft grooves and lands--I do this now
